Author: Suzy Trabia Our YMF group joined forces with the Southern Nevada Branch and created a new event called the “Summer Mixer with Directors” with a goal to fund raise for our members. This event allowed engineers to meet and socialize with public works directors from City of Las Vegas, City of Henderson, City of North Las Vegas, Nevada Department of Transportation, Regional Transportation Commission, and Las Vegas Valley Water District. We had 110 people register for the event and we able to fund raise by selling tickets to enter and raffle tickets for prizes that local companies generously donated. Overall, it was great success and we received great feedback from attendees asking ASCE to hold it the next summer too.

Author: Catherine LaBounty The ASCE YMF hike to Fletcher canyon was a nice day spent outdoors with a dozen engineers of all experience levels. We arrived to the meetup spot at 10 am to enjoy the ideal weather in the forested park accompanied by dogs and children. The 4 mile round trip hike featured changing vegetation into the lush canyon where the stream was flowing at a higher level than normal peaking at the end where a waterfall of snow-melt spilled into pools. The group enjoyed conversations about their different companies, other YMF events, and their professional and personal connections. The hike was a valuable experience for those who attended to bond and experience the lovely nature right outside the Las Vegas valley.  |
