Why do you enjoy being an ASCE member?
I love that ASCE gives me an opportunity to stay connected with all the fellow engineers & friends I’ve met over the years. I also love that it allows me to create new connections in the industry.
What is your favorite event of ASCE YMF?
So far it's WRYMC
What is an engineering project you're proud of?
An engineering project I am proud of is the Flood Control Master Plan Update for the Summerlin West Planning Area (SWPA). SWPA is an 8 square mile mixed use master planned community that includes a 112 acre-foot CCRFCD detention basin, an existing 384-foot CCRFCD detention basin that was modified, and approximately 44,000 linear feet of CCRFCD storm drain facilities ranging from 60-inch RCPs to 12-ft by 10-ft RCBs. I analyzed a watershed totaling approximately 40 square miles and established the master conceptual storm drain conveyance facilities incorporated in the CCRFCD 2018 MPU. After the MPU was completed, I proceeded to complete technical studies and improvement plans for 14 phases (approximately 26,000 linear feet) of both local and regional storm drain and roadway infrastructure improvements within Village 21 (327 acres). Design/construction for the infrastructure in SWPA is still ongoing. This project is an extremely complex and fast project, and from a flood control perspective the project was a big part of my career thus far.
Fun fact about Joanna:
I took an 18 month look sabbatical from my engineering career. During that time explored 16 countries and live in Alaska! It did not set back my career one bit and was one of the best decisions I’ve ever made.
