PSWC 2017

On March 6th, three Las Vegas ASCE YMF members departed on a short road trip down to Irvine, California. The trip’s goal was to not only support the University of Nevada, Las Vegas’s ASCE Student Chapter at the Pacific Southwest Conference (PSWC) but to talk with all students attending the conference about continuing with YMF after graduation while providing them with a light breakfast on Concrete Canoe Race Day Friday morning.

Early Friday morning,  the YMF members used the sponsored funds from ASCE’s Committee on Younger Members (CYM) to purchase a wide spread of breakfast items such as bagels, Clementine’s, cliff bars, bananas, and Capri Suns to help provide a fueling breakfast for approximately 19 different universities. The sponsored food was overall a big hit! Many of the students reacted very positively and were relieved to find that there would be food available for the super early beach day at the canoe races. As students flocked to the booth, they were extremely appreciative and thankful for the meal. The YMF representatives took the opportunity to talk with students about YMF and the many benefits that come with staying an ASCE member after graduation.

The Las Vegas ASCE YMF group would like to thank the CYM for the ability to leverage the sponsored funds in return for providing a nutritional spread for the students. It was a very long and enjoyable weekend that definitely helped to educate the students about the role of YMF. Las Vegas ASCE YMF definitely looks forward to maintaining a strong connection/advisor role with the student chapter and ensuring the personal and professional success for the ASCE Student Chapter members!
